Bermondsey & Rotherhithe Walking Tour
Highlights:
Experience two atmospheric and relatively undiscovered riverside districts of London. Teeming with history, maritime and industrial heritage, there’s a real sense of age, despite ill-judged demolitions and huge regeneration.
There will be tales of leather, spice, seafaring, shipbuilding and shipbreaking. Of pirates, monks and royalty, of drowning, body-snatchers, arson, bombing and dereliction, philanthropy and filth.
Curve through canyons of warehouses by an ancient dock and the site of London’s ultimate slum rookery. Contrast this with a shabby-chic high street and fashionable waterfront restaurants. Take in a fabulous sweep of the Thames with spectacular views. See the site of a royal manor house and the world’s first underwater tunnel. Hear about the East India Company, a fire fiercer than the Great Fire of London and stand where the Pilgrim Fathers started their journey to America.
