City and Roman London Walking Tour

Highlights:
Cross London Bridge to walk a city within a city, founded by the Romans almost 2,000 years ago with remnants still visible. See hidden gems and well-known landmarks in the very oldest part of London.

Bombing and redevelopment led to the rediscovery of Londinium, capital of Roman Britain. Follow the route of a Roman road, walk above a lost river and the original Roman shoreline.  Descend through time to an underground temple and marvel at preserved artefacts.  Discover amphitheatre remains beneath an art gallery. Explore surviving sections of the Roman city wall and fort. Wander through an enclosed Victorian market, built on the site of the Roman basilica and forum.

Hear tales of the first Londoners, dragons, slaves, gladiators, saints, baths, devastating fires and rebellion.

Along the way, pass more recent City landmarks. See where the Great Fire of London started, an award-winning garden set in gothic church ruins, the largest civic hall in medieval England, the site of London’s first coffee house and the hub of the City, where famous buildings in the classical style converge. Finish at the site of the Roman fort near Barbican.
